Review of I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story (2015) by Manny C — 13 Jun 2015
Almost every single day for the past 40-plus years, one man has donned an eight-foot-tall yellow bird suit and gone to work as the iconic Big Bird. That man is Carroll Spinney, the silver-haired subject of the loving and lovingly made documentary about a puppeteer who has touched and brightened the lives of countless children who grew up on Sesame Street since the late 60's.
When he's not in the costume, Spinney is just as impossibly sunny as his alter ego, and not cranky like his other character, Oscar The Grouch. And at age 80, he has no plans to hang up his feathers.
We should all be so grateful.
