This movie was rough. Being on a Chain Gang is clearly a horrible fate. They held nothing back on this one. Paul Muni is amazing as James Allen/Allen James a guy in the wrong place at the wrong time who ends up on a chain gang.
He escapes, makes good in society, but is turned in by a rotten dame. The haunting look on his face at the end is crazy.
