Review of Hysteria (2011) by Ian G — 12 Oct 2012
A cute look at the late 1800's Britain as the world of modern medicine and the suffragete movement collide with a lot of women being misdiagnosed as been hysterics as opposed to looking for ways to be fuller women.
Outside of a funny moment or two around the creation of the vibrator and a decent chemistry between Gyllenhaal and Dancy, the film is very much a one trick pony and lacks a certain punch up to make it gripping throughout.
In a weird way it is a too comical version of a merchant ivory film or an ideal husband for its own good.
