Review of Hyena Road (2015) by Andrew M — 07 Oct 2015
Saw a free screening of this one tonight. Very well done canadian war film that felt almost too real at times and doesn't shy away from war violence/gore at times and is quite disturbing. Paul Gross is becoming a better director with each of his films and his heart is in the right place here, I assume just from watching this one and what I've heard of his others.
There is also some great dry and dark humor in this as well and very likeable characters. My only complaint here is that the acting was a bit cheesy in some spots and it didn't pack a huge emotional punch that I have gotten from some of the best in this genre.
That all being said this is worth a look for fans of war films and Paul Gross in general who is pretty great here.
