Review of Hyena (2015) by Peter F — 28 Apr 2015
A British crime drama that's gritty, harrowing and not much else. A perpetually ugly film, Hyena doesn't give us much reason to care about the decadent characters, and the story relies on graphic violence rather than genuine plot growth.
Also, the ending is clearly an attempt to end on a pseudo-ambiguos note but instead feels like a cop-out. It's well-shot, and it has an effective soundtrack, but this can't stand along better British crime thrillers like Sexy Beast and The Long Good Friday.
