Review of Hyde Park on Hudson (2012) by Nelson A. R — 16 Dec 2012
Another movie that is sold as minor biopic and then turns out to be a microscopic event in the life and presidency of FDR. Not that there is anything wrong with that but the trailer and ads mislead you and since the movie is not that great, the whole experience is totally underwhelming.
Hyde Park on Hudson is a decent movie with pretty solid acting but it fills incomplete. I could not gather if the main idea was to show us a different side of FDR or to give us a glimpse at the process of restoring anglo-american relations.
Ultimately, HOH plays out as one of the millions of movies that will be watched and soon forgotten. It's shame since there was really so much opportunity; from the great casting to the wonderful setting and scenery.
While not a particularly good movie, HOH is certainly very tolerable and it will be enjoyed by most adults, history buffs and pretentious people that would refuse to watch something a lot better, like the Muppets.
Not good but not particularly bad. Meh.
