Review of Hyde Park on Hudson (2012) by Todd S — 24 Dec 2012
One part prequel to The King's Speech (with similar ambitions) and the other a melodrama involving president FDR's infidelities. It is beautifully shot, and efficiently edited, with just enough quirky strange-but-true history to be fascinating.
I can understand the bad reviews though. Bill Murray, however dedicated to his performance, still comes across a tad awkward in the role, not because of its dramatic needs, but due to the script, which pushes it's way through cliches throughout.
Laura Linney is unlikable from the very opening narration. All in all, it's entertaining, light and harmless.
