Review of Hyde Park on Hudson (2012) by Todd R — 13 Jan 2013
The movie is set back during the time when FDR is president, and he retreats to his home to host the King and Queen of England who are paying a visit to talk to FDR about the upcoming war with Germany and to gain the support of the US.
FDR seeks out comfort from the chaos of his presidency from a distant cousin who becomes his mistress. The movie is based on the diaries and notes of his mistress, and the narration is given by the same person.
Bill Murray plays his role as FDR very well. He certainly deserves a nomination. While I enjoyed the show, I felt it lacked something, but what, I don't know. It probably would have been a better movie if the mistress became a minor subplot, and the story focused more on his interaction with the Royals.
