Review of Hyde Park on Hudson (2012) by Matt W — 12 Aug 2013
Very strange [and upsetting] movie about FDR and [one of ] his mistress Daisy and the weekend the King and Queen of England came to Hyde Park to visit [and to talk about America entering the war that was looming with Hitler]. Lots of drama [it is at this time that Daisy finds out that she is NOT the only mistress and has to deal with the emotions that brings in the midst of having royalty there] and some hilarity.
Mostly, this movie was upsetting to me. I did not really realize what this movie was about until I was into it and there are just some things that I think you should leave alone and this is one of them. It was upsetting to me and I now wish I had not watched it.
Bill Murry does an excellent job as FDR and Laura Linney shines as usual, but my favorite person in this movie is Samuel West, who plays King George [Bertie]. I have loved him in quite a few movies and he is just brilliant in this and a joy to watch whenever he is on the screen. He IS the best part of this movie.
