Review of Hyde Park on Hudson (2012) by Peter H — 13 Feb 2013
I had high hopes for this, as the preview sold a whimsical tale about some truly interesting historical characters. One thing that let me down was Olivia Colman playing a sour, ungracious Queen Elizabeth (later known as the Queen Mother) who was disrespectful to her husband and king and intolerant of American culture.
Also the film's insistence on following a rather peculiar sub-plot of F.D.R.'s affairs implied that the subject matter of UK vs US was so weak that they needed to augment it to 'pad-out' the film.
Bill Murray was wonderful, and the two stars are for him alone.
