Review of Hustle & Flow (2005) by Pierce G — 17 Aug 2011
This may quite possibly be the best films of the last decade. The one thing that elevates it beyond other movies of its kind (8 Mile, Get Rich or Die Tryin') is its pure visceral power. It's more gritty and raw than 8 Mile (or any other rap-inspired movie, for that matter) could ever dream of being.
Part of what makes this film so visceral is an absolutely unparalleled performance by leading man Terrence Howard. He perfectly embodies an urban man's struggle for survival. Also, this movie produced some of the best rap I have ever heard (performed by Terrence Howard).
