Review of Hustle & Flow (2005) by Ty P — 07 Feb 2012

It's a sad state of affairs when MTV garbage like this is being nominated and winning Academy Awards. This film is less than even what I thought, 8 mile being on a far superior and higher playing field, even Get Rich or Die tryin' is up there, but Hustle and Flow, my god!

This film reaks of self centerism and self admiration, and follows the story of some no hoping loser who uses everyone he can to change his life, when he feels its time. The people whom follow him and allow themselves to be used are nothing more than trash.

As for performances they're ok, Terrence Howard hogging most of the limelight, but still allowing some good(not great) preformances to come through like Taryn Manning. Other than that the acting is pretty shit(especially Dj Qualls). Both Terrence Howard and Ludacris played far smarter and better roles in Crash.

If this is supposed to be inspirational it falls well short, and that what we should teach people is in order to follow your dreams is to use everyone around you. The ironic thing too is that 'It's hard out here for a pimp', but when it comes to the crunch does DJay change? No.

Perhaps I'm being a bit harsh becuase I never grew up in black poverty or anything like that, with this film trying to state that this is where true inspiration comes from. To tell the truth I wouldn't want to, and am happy that I don't. True inspiration to me is someone who grows up in poverty, struggles for an education and furthers themselves, eventually working in their favour. Not someone who took the easy way out, used people on low standards then when it came to the crunch wanted a quick, easy way out.

Personally I will not continue to swallow this aboslute filth that black america is trying to make everyone eat. It is classless, thoughtless, unforgiving, self centered garbage, and once again a sad state of affairs that it is being conidered some great work. How many more times do we have suffer this shit to appease black america and the apparent hard times they live in.
