Review of Hustle (2022) by Jluis_001 — 08 Jun 2022
Everything is ordinary and predictable, but machinery works properly when its component parts are of good quality and function adequately.
It's hard to break out of the clichés in the sports genre, but Hustle comes through despite this for the simple reason that there's quality in what it does, and that's more than indispensable these days when you're not tackling something new, but as long as there's aptitude, I'm a firm believer that people will respond.
With a different leading man this film would probably have gotten lost quicker, but at least Adam Sandler manages to give his character an edge, and also provides the film with personality, so even if audiences think of it as a comedy, they'll give it a chance.
As an actor he has much better dramatic roles, but boy is it good to see him outside of the cheap comedy.
Good option right here.
