Review of Husk (2011) by Carey B — 16 Apr 2011
Dead crows, a house in the middle of a cornfield, smelly scarecrows that are actually bodies under a spell, obviously. Being incredibly stereotypical with their choice of characters, the macho jock, a geek with glasses who struggles to walk a short distance because he plays chess instead of sports, and knows everything about cornfields because "he reads, a lot". Oh, and he's got so many bloody morals as well. The house could have come from any hillbilly american horror film, grubby and full of random shit. The dialogue is just as predictable and cheesy. They keep going back to this one house in the cornfield instead of going back to the road, and they seperate as if they've never seen a horror film before.
However, slightly different to the usual pattern, the one girl of the group dies within the first 20 minutes and isn't the one fighting for her life at the end. The thing with horror films is, are they ever really original anymore?
