Review of Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964) by Ashley H — 13 Oct 2006
Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte is after all is said and done is rather sweetly sad movie. Bette Davis was in her element in this role of Charlotte, while Olivia de Havilland in role originally planned for Joan Crawford was superb, and was inspired piece of accidental casting! Agnes Moorehead deserved her Academy nomination, while Mary Astor was most welcome sight.
Joseph Cotten seems wooden in his parts, but does an excellent job here. The Black and White photography adds great deal to the mood, and is far better than Colour would have been. The ending was well planned and carried out, and you feel after film ends there is something else that happened that viewer never saw.
