Review of Hush (2016) by Chris L — 26 May 2017
An utterly horrible movie. No amount of real horror, the only horror being how terrible the movie was. Aside from the countless plot holes in the movie overall, the movie was filled with cliché's from every horror movie out there, that it was pure torture for the viewer to sit through. Aside from the fact that the MC happened to be deaf, there is nothing about this movie that makes it worth watching. There was potential in it, but the directors did literally nothing to make this movie stand out.
The killer was no where near scary or frightening, and the moment the killer took off his mask and started talking, he lost all credibility of any presence as the villain. If they left him with the mask on and silent, the movie would have been better. The fact that the killer had no motive, other than the fact that he's a serial killer, makes it stupid in my opinion. The only backstory we got from the killer was when the MC looked at the crossbow and saw the tally marks (which for some reason weren't even properly tally marked), signifying the number of victims he had. But other than this, there was nothing else about the killer.
And all the other characters in this film had to have had a combined IQ of 80 altogether. The stupidity in every single action that they took was unbearable, but then I guess they had to have been that stupid for the movie to have even happened at all. I get that most horror films need a certain amount of plot holes over looked, but this film had more holes than the movie Holes ever did. I have no understanding why this movie received a 94% on the tomatometer, and even the 74% of audience score is too generous. It deserves a 65% at best. An ok B rate movie to watch when there's nothing else to watch, but worth nothing more than that.
