Review of Husbands and Wives (1992) by Dan B — 18 Sep 2007
So the jump-cut cinematography is jarring, but it creates a sort of cinema verité mood that ultimately pays off. The blistering dialogue, delivered by consummate pros, cuts close to the bone. Sydney Pollack and Judy Davis are funny as hell, and Mia, while playing the ugly, unsympathetic character that her then-lover wrote for her, is immensely moving.
A must-see that requires multiple views.
