Review of Husbands and Wives (1992) by Simon W — 07 Jan 2009
Mature and thoughtful film, which is more powerful because some its situations are left unresolved. Full of interesting set-pieces which ring true, like the childish confrontation outside a party, or the argument that goes on all night.
Judy Davis and Sydney Pollack are really good. But so much talk! Characters speak five lines when one would be more dramatically effective. Also, the shakey-cam just feels like an affectation.
