Review of Husbands (1970) by Aki I — 24 Nov 2007
I think it is a shame that nobody makes movies like HUSBANDS anymore. And I have no idea why this film is so underated and almost forgotten. Maybe because it has not come out on DVD yet.
On the other hand I cannoÂ?t think of anyone who would be able to make such a pure and wonderful film today.
It is a movie for guys, a masterpiece about masculine emotions and it iÂ?s painful to watch sometimes because it is so intimate but Cassavetes, Peter Falk and especially Ben Gazzara are so brilliant. They do some of the best acting I have seen... ever - by anyone calling himself an actor.
Watching HUSBANDS as a filmmaker means to feel humbled.
