It tries to play itself off as a serious science fiction movie. It fails. It isn't deep so much as slow and laborious. Boring. It isn't intelligent. It isn't technological. It has some good psychology (not great).
It shows some good ingenuity (for the humans, of course... the aliens are just stupid). Random acts of kindness... not explained (why do you... for the same reason you do... huh?). A SMALL movie.
