Review of Hunter Killer (2018) by Scott H — 27 Oct 2018
I really enjoyed this movie and was wondering why the critics didn't like it. Then as I was leaving the theater and looked around, I realized why. The theater was full of adults. No kids, no Marvel or DC or Anime lovers, just normal, mature adults.
That about this movie up in a fairly concise way. It covers a still relevent topic in a fairly realistic way. These days, with a new superhero movie released every other weekend, movies like this are getting harder and harder to find.
I woudl agree that it fell just slightly short of the modern submarine classics Hunt for Red October and Cromson Tide, but it wasn't JUST a submarine movie. The action switched from submarine to grounbd based actions including a relatively intense SEAL team rescue.
Gerard Butler came off a little like Russel Crowe in Master and Commander, but he played the part well. There were a few cliche'd bits, but overall the concept, execution and storyline of the movie held together well.
