Review of Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016) by F B — 02 Jan 2017
Solid film about a troubled orphan named Ricky (Julian Dennison) that goes to live with a new foster family in the countryside of New Zealand close to the bush. At first Ricky doesn't like the new home, but soon grows to like the very loving Bella (Julian Dennison) even though her husband Hec (Sam Neill) isn't very warm to Ricky at all.
After a tragic event happens Ricky runs away to the bush to escape having to go to another foster home. Hec soon tracks him down and after a miscommunication the two become hunted down by the New Zealand government who believes Hec has kidnapped Ricky.
The two then begin dodging the police living off the land and discovering more about each other. It's got some great chemistry between the two leads Dennison and Neill. Neill is perfect as a grumpy old man that wants nothing to do with Ricky.
There's a lot of great funny moments scattered throughout the film and there's a really nice warm story to the entire thing. I enjoyed this one and recommend giving this one a look!
