HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE-2016(PG-13)-Aug. 1.
By:Clem The Movie Guy.
Based on the novel, "Wild Pork & Watercress," by Barry Crump, Hunt for the Wilderpeople is the latest film by Taika Waititi, the acclaimed writer & director of Eagle Vs Shark (2007,) Boy (2010,) What We Do in the Shadows (2014,) & the TV series, Flight of the Conchords. Wilderpeople is the story of Ricky Baker (Julian Dennison) a thirteen year old whose mischievous behavior lands him in one foster home after another until he ends up in the New Zealand countryside home of kind-hearted Bella (Rima Te Wiata) & her cranky husband, Hec (Sam NeIil.) Bella suddenly dies, & a panicked Ricky flees into the New Zealand Bush. When the social worker shows up to find Ricky & the unfit Hec missing, she assumes the worst & initiates a massive manhunt. What starts out as an escape turns into an adventure that builds the bonds of trust & family. Wilderpeople is a marvelous film, witty & entertaining. The performances from Julian Dennison & Sam NeIil were brilliant. The New Zealand landscape was breathtaking. Hunt for the Wilderpeople is a CAN'T MISS FILM.
