Review of Humpday (2009) by Ryan B — 27 Jul 2009
The premise is simple, if not moronic: two old mates from college decide to make gay porn for the sake of art. What follows is a comical and surprisingly incisive look at male sexuality and modern adulthood.
Serving up some truly cringe-worthy moments, the movie provides plenty of laughs due mostly to the seemingly effortless acting talents of the two male leads and their portrayal of misplaced macho, and at times witless, bravado.
Unfortunately, the movie eventually suffers from far too much of the very thing that was its strength: minutiae. And as for the finale? Sadly, it's no happy ending. Earnest.
