Review of Humpday (2009) by Leighton T — 17 Dec 2009
I like that this film is a different take on the "bromance," buddy kind of film, in very much an indie way. That it's written and directed by a female is even more intriguing. What I had a problem with though is that for all it's clever intuitiveness, and a striking idea, a film that wants to be introspective shouldn't obviously be introspective (this being the downfall of its second half). There are times in the film where they (the two guys) are sitting around talking things out and it's just plain boring. While this moves character development along, there is no action taking place, truthfully. There were inspired moments, moments where it really clicks, and the comedy is very touching, very real-life, but for all those, there are a great deal of moments where I was left scratching my head.
Very hit and miss in my book, but survives on its original idea.
