Review of Humpday (2009) by Ben S — 12 Feb 2010
Humpday is an intriguing indie comedy that is a heartfelt and well acted character study.
Humpday is about Ben (Mark Duplass), an average guy whose trying to start a family with his wife Anna (Alycia Delmore), when unexpectadly Andrew (Joshua Leonard) his friend from college stops by and stays over for a while. As the movie gets rolling they both realize things about themselves that they have not noticed before, and that they may not know how to deal with.
Mark Duplass and Joshua Leonard have great chemistry in this movie as two friends who reunite and learn how much different they are than they originally thought, and even learn things about themselves. Mark Duplass' performance was my favorite in this film, his subtle and at time awkward humor is well recieved.
This story could of easily been taken by a mediocre director and turned into yet another imature teen movie fiasco, but instead Lynn shelton and Mark Duplass get involved and make this film something special. With some multi dimensional characters that really reach out to the audience and make the audience think about where they are in their own lives.
