Review of Humoresque (1947) by Masorad ( — 19 Apr 2010
Lachrymose drama about a concert violinist and the patroness who falls head over snifter for him. This is a bleak film with, when you get right down to it, rather unlikeable characters (although Garfield & Crawford give knockout performances) save for Oscar Levant's who is, as always, seemingly in his own private film.
There's enough shadows & foreshadowing here for a dozen films. The penultimate sequence, with Crawford heading onto the beach to the strains of Wagner's Liebestod, is phenomenal.
