Review of Human Traffic (1999) by Nick S — 29 Sep 2008
Wow. I love how this film just says "fuck you" to some of the more traditional filmmaking conventions. There's some really amazing creativity here, the cinematographic prowess being grossly underated.
The film nails the culture and feel of the 90's with ease. The characters, whilst admittedly a bit larger than life and loud for some, are really well rounded and we all know people who behave in similar fashion which gives them a huge sense of normality.
It's a crazy experience, pretty much like an actual drug/alcohol trip out in it's own right. The feel and the pace of this film is what sets it apart from pretty much any other film I've seen this year.
Fucking greatness.
