Review of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) by Jessi O — 04 Mar 2009
I think Sanjay Leela Bhansali lost the plot in the 2nd Act of this film. The first 2/3 has your typical Bollywood elements: song and dance, comedy, family drama, romance, sacrifice. Then the story moves to what is supposed to be Italy, but blatantly isn't.
Why they did this, I have no idea. The acting by Salman Khan, Helen and the supporting cast is really very poor. Only Ajay Devgan and Aishwarya Rai's acting holds up against the silliness happening all around.
Thank God for the end when it came, but what a shame, as the rest of the film before 'Italy' was impressive, especially the use of music, not just in the dance numbers. Salman Khan needs to stop being a buffoon so often, and practise his emotional acting.
