Review of Hulk Vs. (2009) by Trevor L — 16 Feb 2009

What appears to be one full length film is actually two shorts together but not coherently. Part 1: Hulk is transported to Asgard to fight Thor. Part 2: Wolverine is sent by the Canadian government (if you never read comics about Wolverine's past or his involvement with the Canadian government, you'll be slightly confused why and his costume) to take down the Hulk. Does this mean part 2 picks up after 1? It doesn't appear so. But anyways, i'll review both parts of their own strengths and weaknesses.

This could have definitely been a feature length film, but alas it's a short 45 minutes of story, fighting and mythology. The design of Thor is great, but i'm not a fan of how they drew Hulk with long, green hair; it just doesn't look right. The fight scenes are great, as the Odinson and Gamma giant square off in Asguard and the poundings are hard core awesome.

Part 2: For those of you who never read the Incredible Hulk issue that introduced the world to Wolverine, this short is a refresher with new material added in with Wolverine's former captors Weapon X added in as adversaries. The Good? Lots of fight sequences, and boy do they push the boundaries of a PG-13 rating. Deadpool. Just I love Deapool, he's funny, he's a nutjob and he's just cool. ok, so i'm biased about the character, but the animators did do a great job designing the character and making his appearance appealing (in one scene, literally). Time wise, this was a more compelling and complete story than Thor as the film never drags in the alloted time. The Bad? Again, this was such a cool story that it could have been a full feature on its own.

So there you have it, two shorts in one collection that are enjoyable but not as fulfilling as you would expect.
