Review of Hulk (2003) by Emod L — 27 Aug 2014
Positives: beautifully directed, creatively edited, and further proof that Jennifer Connelly should always be on the big screen.
But the negatives are numerous: a terrible plot inserting a backstory that pretends for psychological depth but instead provides Nick Nolte, General Ross' unexplained rage, bewildered Dr. Bruce Banner instead of mild-mannered, a blobby ending of blobby CGI and blobby unearned emotions and sacrifices, a monster poodle, more unexplained rage (why, for instance, does Banner get angry in the first place? He's depicted as being especially bewildered before his first Hulk-out, not angry.).
Worst of all are the chairs. And the sitting. The movie is really all about sitting in chairs. Or lying down in beds. There is occasional running, but then more chairs. A confrontation as enemies sit across from each other on chairs.
And then the movie ends with lots of green and a lizard, because why not. I'm surprised he wasn't sitting down.
