Review of Hugo (2012) by Logan T — 07 Jan 2013
You know that you are watching the work of a master when you can watch his films multiple times and find more things to love about it with each new viewing. I have now seen "Hugo" three times, and while I always loved the film, it has just occurred to me that Scorsese has made another classic with this one.
Not only is it one of his most meticulously directed pictures, but the story that he has to work with is something that is transcendent in its magic and beauty. Speaking of beauty, I must also acknowledge that this is one of the most visually stunning films I have ever seen (by the way, I saw it in 3D when it first came out, and it is by far the best at incorporating the technique so far).
Martin Scorsese has again proven that he can turn any kind of idea into a brilliant film, making him still the best living director. Also, any film enthusiast will find this movie to be extra joyous given its historical background.
