Review of Hugo (2012) by Lee H — 29 Jan 2013
Maybe not the masterpiece critics think it is but this is still a very good film from Scorsese that oozes heart. This love letter to the silent age of movies has a great story, eccentric characters and great performances from the actors ( Cohen and Kingsley in particular ) playing the roles.
It is visually stunning and for a kid's movie, never insults the viewers intelligence. Moretz continues to prove to be a talented young actress and Jude Law again tends to excel more in smaller roles.
My only gripe that prevents it from being a great film is the actor who plays Hugo is by far the weakest link and for an important role is nothing more than competent. Overall though a very enjoyable and warm film.
