Review of Hugo (2012) by Jessica L — 14 Feb 2013
Paris has two faces, one is very grim and disturbing, the other is beautiful and romantic. I prefer the latter. This movie features the romantic side, set in faux Victorian France it's a sight to behold, every scene is like a fairy tale.
The story is about a boy named Hugo and his toy, a robot. However it not just any robot, it's basically the only thing that connects Hugo to his past and leads him into his future. The robot turns out to have some really special history to it.
I read some critics saying that the story is jumbled, but in the end 'Hugo' isn't so much about a sad boy, robots or movies, it's about magic and adventure and it's all very special. My only regret is that it's not in French, the French setting and story make the English language seem a bit out of place.
