Review of Hugo (2012) by Raquel R — 07 May 2015
Hugo is an excellent movie that shows that Martin Scorsese can make a good kids film too. The acting is great, especially Asa Butterfield, Chloe Grace Moretz, Ben Kingsley, and many others. The characters are memorable like Hugo, Isabelle, and George Melies.
It's actually cool to see a kid talk big words, and actually make sense because she reads a lot of books and poetry to which she wants to be on adventures. In first viewing, I actually thought that Sasha Baron Cohen's character was not that funny and felt like a comic relief, but after watching it now again, he completely change me as he's actually funny and had a purpose in this, and was not just a comic relief.
The effects that are CGI, visual design, and practical are fantastic that you wouldn't really know which scenes are computer animated or just downright real. The story is fascinating to watch as it really shows its love and respect to filmmaking itself.
The chemistry between Hugo and Isabella is really good and you can tell that they're having fun together in an adventure. Hugo is a stellar movie does justice to the source material that I love.
