Review of Hugo (2011) by Gomi A — 27 Dec 2012
One third Cinema Paradiso minus almost all of Harry Potter (except for the magic store) plus a smidgen of Amelie equals one Hugo.
For some reason I thought this was animated and in 3d. Yes, I understand it probably was in 3d, but to what effect - other than 3d? No, don't answer that. maybe it was a transcendent moviegoing experience. And perhaps some of the mise-en-scene was animation. I saw it at home. It looked beautiful. It wrote a small love note to the movies. And then... what? Like its subject's subject, it had some very nice parts, but there was no climax. In the end, meh.
