Review of Hugo (2011) by Jeremy I — 30 Dec 2012
This is a film made for cinephiles and children. Its imaginative, clever and mesmerizing qualities mask some of the film's flaws. For a nostalgic story it seemed incredibly inauthentic; the setting is in Paris and all the characters are French, yet every actor uses a British accent.
If a train is pulling into a (dead-end) station, it shouldn't be going full speed. *Spoiler*: [Hugo's book is supposedly an important, emotional object in the beginning, yet we never see the book again and he fixes the robot without it anyway.
