I enjoyed it, but I was kind of disappointed. Granted, I had quite high expectations based on all the positive reviews it's received and, uh, the Oscars, but I seriously don't think it delivered anything truly amazing.
There were a select few moments where I felt emotionally connected to the characters, but by and large, I didn't. Maybe I'm crazy. I don't know. It was an adventure movie without a whole lot of adventure.
The mystery was too transparent. The screenplay was a bit unfocused if you ask me, which by reading this review, you are by default. It definitely shouldn't have received a best screenplay nom. That's stupid.
I can't help but wonder if this would have been a better film in the hands of someone like Spielberg. Scorsese really hasn't been doing it for me with the past few films he's directed. [3/5 STARS] [032613].
