Review of Hugo (2011) by Alex T — 20 Jan 2015
When watching hugo, the visual effects and innocence of the characters captivated me. However, not much else did. The film has fine acting, a heartfelt and honest script and is very emotionally resonant.
Baron Cohen's chracter is undoubtedly the funniest aspect of the film. But, and this is a big issue: the film is very boring. Very boring indeed. The script's pacing is extremely slow and in the end it doesn't entirely deliver on its premise.
Additionally, while I can respect and admire the film, I wasn't hooked. At all. The film is also too long and adds scenes that do nothing to propell the story along. This film is exceptionally well made and acted.
Shame its hopelessly snore-inducing.
