Review of Hudson Hawk (1991) by Lucas B — 20 Mar 2011
What a ludicrous concept. A famous cat burglar is brought to Rome to steal a collection of Leonardo Da Vinci works containing clues about how to build a machine to turn lead into gold.
Hudson Hawk is mostly a parody of a few action adventure genres. In this way it succeeds most of the time. Although the comedy is often silly, and sometimes misses it's mark, the actors here play their characters with a glorious over the top hamminess that makes the goofiness work.
It really does grow on you with repeated watchings and is full of gags and little easter eggs of humour that you might not catch the first time through.
