Review of Hudson Hawk (1991) by Carl W — 10 Oct 2011
Shitty movie with one good scene. The movie's main problem? There really isn't one over the other. This piece of crap is full of bad judgement, lousy decisions and just plain laziness. It has awful acting (though Bruce Willis is still, well, Bruce Willis - and Danny Aiello isn't bad either), over-the-top hamminess (not the good kind), simple mistakes with timelines, stupid stupid characters and it's full clichés.
I'm sure that some appreciate it for its campiness, but I personally think that it just doesn't work. But, as I said, there's one good scene. All of the scenes with just Willis and Aiello in them are at least bearable, but the first heist where they steal the horse statue is actually frigging awesome.
The music, the chemistry between the characters, the style... it's just plain wonderful. I'd bet that the whole idea for this movie began with that heist and the rest of it was just amateurish padding.
