Review of Howl's Moving Castle (2004) by Asjklasjklas — 16 Mar 2015
Though Howl’s Moving Castle has its narrative shortcomings, Hayao Miyazaki’s direction, Studio Ghibli’s dazzling animation, and a stunning soundtrack turn the onscreen adaption of British writer Diana Wynne Jones’s 1986 novel of the same name into an overall enchanting and endearing world where every moment—including its darkest—has a certain charm beneath it. It also has the best English vocal performances within Studio Ghibli’s filmography, general acclaim awarded to Christian Bale, Billy Crystal, and of course, late legends Jean Simmons and Lauren Becall.
Overall rating: 8.
