Review of Howl (2010) by Sadaf M — 10 Jan 2011
One of the best documentaries i've seen this year ... and yes I am calling it a "documentary" as every bit of dialogue comes from 1) ginsberg's "howl" poem, 2) interviews with ginsberg, and 3) transcripts from the court case deciding the literary value and ferlinghetti's right to publish "howl.".
This film perfectly blends franco's reading of "howl" over a mostly animated backdrop; interviews with ginsberg (played by franco) to illuminate certain sections of "howl," his approach/views on writing and certain biological elements; and the court case showing how "howl" was received by many during its time of publishing.
A definite must-see.
