Review of Howards End (1992) by Ben W — 10 Jan 2011
I thoroughly enjoyed this merchant-ivory adaptation of the classic forster novel. is it anywhere near as good as reading the book? absolutely not. read the damn book first. in fact, read it at least 3 times before you watch this film because its that good.
but the film takes these wonderful characters, gives them an excellent cast to fill them, and the rest is history. thompson, hopkins, and carter are all wonderful, though I was particularly amazed by the performance of vanessa redgrave, that old hitchcock veteran from the lady vanishes.
though hercharacter dies within the first few scenes of the film, her presence is felt throughout. great adaptation.
