Review of How to Train Your Dragon (2010) by Russell Q — 19 Feb 2015
Now this is what I am talking about! A movie that is Dreamworks Animation's best film since the first Shrek! How to Train Your Dragon is a animated movie you will never forget!
The story is about a young boy named Hiccup, (voiced by Jay Barachel), the son of a Viking named Stoick, (Gerald Butler), who is chief of the tribe on the village of Berk. Hiccup wishes he would be like the others, but they think he is not good enough for battle. One night, Hiccup shot down the deadliest dragon of them all, the Night Fury. The next day, he find it in the woods, and lets it go instead of killing it. Stoick then wants Hiccup to fight dragons, when he doesn't want to. While he stinks at dragon training, Hiccup fights the night fury again and decides to name it Toothless. Hiccup decides want to befriend Toothless and he does. Hiccup decided to train him and ride on him, which then leads to him might changing the war on Vikings and dragons in one of the most exhilarating, funny, and amazing animated movies of all time.
It isn't just the plot that keeps me entertained, everything in this animated movie is marvelous. The original score, composed by John Powell, is one of the most unique music tracks I have ever heard in a film. The dragons are created well by imagination. The cast is hilarious, and amazing, including Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller, and Kristen Wiig. Jay Barachel was the perfect voice for Hiccup.
From Dreamworks Animation, the creators of Shrek, Madagascar, and Kung Fu Panda, comes their next awesome adventure. Packed with amazing visuals, art direction, music, an all-star cast, and amazing directing, Directors Chris Saunders and Dean DeBlois (Lilo and Stitch), have created their first masterpiece, How to Train Your Dragon. This movie soars!
