Review of How to Train Your Dragon (2010) by Bheema D — 16 Aug 2015
An experiment in making a peanut butter and ranch dressing sandwich: taking a movie about a nerdy kid with parents who want him to be a football player, and the Monsters Inc. formula of a main character who is not prejudiced like his fellows and tolerating and further befriending those that are different from you, and putting those two together.
Maybe it would sound nice at first, but after thinking about it a while, that would sound like a mess. Unfortunately, DreamWorks doesn't think, so I'm sure they just took the script and ran with it because it had toy sales opportunities.
Following overplayed beats at every turn, sporting worn out dialogue and featuring a less than competent voice acting cast, How to Train Your Dragon probably mesmerized the world five years ago with its unmistakable aesthetic.
