Review of How to Train Your Dragon (2010) by Brendan S — 21 Dec 2015
How to Train Your Dragon still ranks among my favorite animated films of all time. The visuals are phenomenal, the writing is very natural and well-executed, the characters are believable and relatable, and the story is both simple and engaging.
It's interesting how this film uses so many family film cliches and still manages to make them all work at the same time. The dorky underdog, story of prejudice, the misunderstandings... this stuff usually bogs down family animated films.
But it all comes together beautifully here because of how the film takes time to address each character's emotions and situations. And considering how short the movie is (an hour and a half long), that's really saying something.
I seriously recommend watching this movie if you haven't seen it yet.
