Review of How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014) by Accacia G — 19 Jan 2015
I understand why other people might like it more than me, but for me, it's just all right. The animation is great, and they manage to imbue the dragons with a lot of personality just through visuals, and while the textures aren't quite up to Pixar/Disney level (the ice here compared to Frozen is lacking a bit), it's still very beautiful, and - especially in the fight scenes -- very fluid and dynamic.
That said, I did find the story itself rather predictable, and it it relies on a few too many cliches and expository sequences. That's not to say it's bad -- far from it -- it just lacked that spark that drew me into the original.
Still, there's enough humour and humanity for the adults, and I think those kids 6-7 and up (there are a few scary scenes, and one dark one, that give me pause for those younger) will love it.
