Review of How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014) by Dann M — 21 Aug 2015

With a heavy handed message about animal rights and one-dimensional characters, How to Train Your Dragon 2 is a disappointing sequel that lacks the sense of fun of the original. After learning that a Viking warlord is assembling a dragon army, Hiccup attempts to seek him out in order to negotiate a peace that will spare his village.

The plot is pretty formulaic and follows the usual tropes of a sequel. Also, the tone is rather dark and is fairly light on the comedy. The animation however, is extraordinarily well-done and is especially crisp and colorful.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 fails to recapture the wonder and thrill of the original, but it's still entertaining and has some exciting action.
