Review of How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014) by Sunera S — 23 Apr 2015
Review for How to Train Your Dragon? 2.
Story.
I can undoubtedly say the best 3D animated sequel ever. It does not continue the story exactly from where it left in the 1st movie. Writers succeeded to drag the story line to a whole new level. As in the trailers, it's not Dragons Vs Humans anymore. It's about love vs conquer and greed for power. Not gonna say more due to spoilers. Flow of the story was just awesome till the end. Well balanced action, humor and also touching and epic scenes.
Characters.
Since the story is happening about after 5 years from the 1st movie, what I mainly noticed and appreciated is the maturity from the looks of every each character. And the chemistry between every main character as well as the sub characters are just amazing. My 2 most favorite character bonds were the one between Hiccup-Toothless ( Night Fury ) and the one between Hiccup-Astrid ( Hiccup's love interest ). And Astrid looks gorgeous than ever before compared to 1st movie. Any way, Night Fury stole the show. Every each scene he appeared was a joy to watch. As in the previous movie says, " If you get loyalty of a dragon, there is nothing a dragon won't do for you ", Night Fury proved it perfectly through the entire movie. And the main villain named " Drago Bludvist " ( Played by Djimon Hounsou ) of the movie was really bad-ass. He was a douche, an arrogant, hot head which exactly we would like to see in a powerful villain. And amazing voice cast who played various popular characters in both TV series and Movies will blow your mind from their talent. Well balanced characters and runtime for every each character. Even minor and sub characters stealing the show at times with their occasional humor ( Tuffnut & Ruffnut twins , Snotlout and Fishlegs ).
Action, 3D.
One of the greatest cinematography I've ever seen in a 3D animated movie. Well crafted battle scenes and superb use of 3D. Some cool notable pop-out 3D effects and great depth. What is best about the 3D was, we can literally feel like flying on a dragon. Just amazing. And this is the 1st time I got goosebumps after Lion King movie. The movie got a surprising epic battle which almost made me cry for joy ( Usually we don't see much epic battles which gives us chills in animated movies ).
Score.
A memorable epic and touching score. Loved every each track and merges with the movie perfectly. It was just icing on the cake. Kudos to the composer Mr.John Powell.
Pros (+) and Cons (-).
+ The WHOLE movie !
- Nothing !
Final word.
In my opinion, this is the best 3D animated movie sequel, Most epic 3D animated movie and the best 3D animated movie EVER ! Well balanced action, humor, touching scenes as well as epic scenes. I'm not shy or ashamed to tell that almost cried 3 times during the movie ( ended up pouring 2, 3 tear drops :D ) and it was the 1st time I had that feeling after Lion King in an animated movie. The 3rd time I almost cried, was completely for the joy. I was like a freaking cave man who can't spell a word but only making various noises. It was surprising and epic. This movie will worth more than the every each penny you pay and will end-up one of the best 3D animated movies you ever watched. Maybe the best 3D animated movie ever too. Hurry-up and watch it !
My rating - 10/10.
